Wes Carson
Translucent Views
An Enhanced Color Photographic Exhibition
Capturing a visual idea with subtle nuances allows for the medium to inflect
the beauty of the subject while exposing the power of its abstract nature.
Utilizing a rough edge of figurative design, Wes Carson combines the chaos of
layered meaning with a guided direction of technical experimentation to explore
his enhanced images. With the explicit nature of his work, Carson’s sexual
connotations reveal the raw qualities of human existence. Carson's photographs
distort the preconceptions of imposed boundaries as he modifies the projections
through social filters.
"With each image, the shape and texture of each piece relates to the
emotional and psychological direction that I strive to convey. Developing my
work with distinctive imperfections, adds a charming individuality and opens the
vision into a deeper realm."
Carson is a Texan native who studied visual refinement at The Brooks
Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California. Working as a Production
Assistant for Vogue Fashion Photographer, Irving Penn, Carson learned about the
intimacy of simplicity through the textured relationship between the topic and
scenic action. After 15 years of image manipulation, Carson sites the works of
Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, Lazo Maholy-Nagy, Joel-Peter Witkin, Manray and
The Dadaists as creative directors and figurative inspirations. Last year,
Carson won first place in the Second Annual AGFA/PhotoDistrict News Competition
for "Independence Day". Wes has also displayed his work locally at
Galerie Macabre and The Chilli Pepper along with exhibitions in California,
Oregon, Colorado and Texas.
