Out With The Light
A Digital Photography Exhibition
By
Martin Fernandez
Revealing an inner glow while concentrating time into stillness expands the sequence through the blurred lines of perception. Within an enclosed environment that plays with echos of illumination and impulse, Martin Fernandez captures moments that convey freedom and spontaneity with an essence of dream-like visions. By shaping the image with various exposure times, Fernandez’s photographs layer fluid motion with dynamic luminescence to characterize the individual qualities of the models. As light, energy and spirits converge, Fernandez's visualizations share a flair of surrealistic grace while reflecting transitory twinkles.
"The compositional imagery is contoured by the softness of the environment and how the models interact with their surroundings. After spacial establishment and setting the comfort level, an instinctual intoxication guides me through the photo shoot."
After moving to Florida in 1980, Fernandez, a New Jersey native, began to intensify his creative approach with experiences in the punk rock subculture that provided opportunities to develop his skills in illustration, photography, writing, music and film. As part of his scholastic refinement, Fernandez studied various artistic mediums while earning an AA at Miami-Dade Community College and a BA at Barry University. After 8 years of dedicated photography, Fernandez cites the works of Michael Gira, Richard Kern, Alejandro Jodorowsky, My Bloody Valentine, Le Compte Lautremont, Current 93 and his friend, Derek Going, as creative stimulants and inspirational beacons for his own pieces. While exploring the various parameters of photography, Fernandez began to use a digital camera and computer to process his images 1 year ago, which has expanded his resources and independent style. Martin has also displayed his work locally at the Moksha Festival and he is currently working on a video installation. The Wallflower Gallery is proud to present Martin Fernandez as a featured artist for this Fine Art Exhibition.
