Luis Diaz
Unusual Circumstances
Acrylic, Oil and Mixed Media
Intense expression develops within realms of graphic depths as the shadows
of solitude fortify the power of imagination. With a flair for edgy
characterization, Luis Diaz creates dark scenes ofisolation that accentuate the
strengths and fears of the maligned and outcast. Combining an urban grittiness
with a tone of a circus freak sideshow, Diaz’s artistic creations portray the
dynamics of the individual trapped within their own surroundings. Playing on the
textured nuances of modern life, Diaz's paintings focus on the emotional weights
that holds back freedom.
"I strive to create a reaction and direct mental energy within my
artwork as I conjure an emotional contour from my scenes. Many times, these
characters seem to be so menacing, but they are actually more fragile on the
inside."
Diaz was born in Cuba, but has spent most of his life in the United States
where he absorbed American culture and later studied artistic techniques from
the Maryland Institute College Of Art. With his creative urges forming
from childhood, Diaz sites the works of Depeche Mode, Todd McFarlane and other
vivid comic book artists as inspirational connections for his own pieces.
Currently, Diaz works as a graphic designer and is writing the layout for a
comic book with his character Cottontail. Luis has also displayed his work
locally at the Avant Garde Salon, Sibi Art Gallery, various school galleries and
art stores.
