Karen Curtis
Whimsical Women
A Watercolor Exhibition
Passion moves with a smooth stroke when humor and indulgence fancies
feminine charms. With a flair for French impressionism, ritzy settings and
lavish excess, Karen Curtis opens the private and titillating world of seductive
ladies. Shaping the mood with soft colors and soothing textures, Curtis’
images reveal the erotic nature of women with grace and dignity. Utilizing fluid
colors that offers the opportunity to explore different sensations, Curtis
touches the details with subtlest accent and shading the hues with a suave flow.
"I escape within my artwork and liberate my mind through fantasy when I
relax and absorb the mood. Painting allows me to play on the frivolous yet
therapeutic essence of pampering the body and feeling the release from societal
confines."
Curtis is a native of Michigan who learned to expand her artistic style
while studying at The University of Hawaii. After 20 years of painting, Curtis
sites the works of Edgar Degas, Mary Cassalt, John Singer Sargent and Toulouse
Lautrec as creative references and formative forces for her own pieces. In
addition, Curtis teaches children how to paint with various techniques in
watercolors. Karen has also displayed her work locally at her studio attached to
the Little Tea House, as well at Funktional Funk, Sunfest and numerous art shows
within the South Florida area.
