Life Intertwined
An Oil and Mixed Media Exhibition

Jose C. Vides
Through the perceptions of safety within civilization, technology and wilderness, we expose the fragile manner of creation. Portraying resurrection within a dynamic clash of industrialization and ecology, Jose C. Vides utilizes fantasy-style techniques throughout a realm of renewal in a post-apocalyptic Earth. Layering emotion within the lush forms and morphed characterizations, Vides’s artistic visions animate the mutated elements of survival to convey the essence of hope and pain growing within this new age. By exploring the potency of nature Vides's paintings share empowerment through the eco-sensitive foundation of the organic components.
"Within the Still Connected chronicles I am able to channel a creative energy that is both optimistic and pessimistic. As the story continues to evolve and expand, I have found an outlet that brings me hope in the face of adversity."
After moving to Miami 26 years ago, Vides, an El Salvador native, began to refine his expressive techniques as a self taught artist with some guidance from Miami Southridge High School. After 10 years of painting, Vides cites the works of M.C. Esher, Salvador Dali, Alex Grey, Bev Dolittle, John Martin, The Grateful Dead, Miles Davis, Phish, Tool and The Beastie Boys as creative motivators and inspirational beacons for his own pieces. Currently Vides is refining various elements of the Still Connected story that he is planning to develop into a graphic novel. Jose has also displayed his work locally at the American Association for Salvadorian Professionals, as well as a selection of student shows in Miami Southridge Senior High School, where he earned various awards. The Wallflower Gallery is proud to present Jose C. Vides as a featured artist for this 2004 Art Display.
