Emerson Calderon
An Acrylic, Oil and Mixed Media Exhibition
Graphic images of apocalypse reflect the pain embodied in the human spirit.
These manifestations of social decay are warnings from Emerson Calderon, an
artist with unique perspective and talent to foresee the power of
mass-industrial consumption. His societal vision weaves a thread of beauty mixed
within a contortion of environmental and human corruption. Calderon’s
paintings work to express the balance of biological and technical creation as
the after-effects merge with his personal hopes and fears.
"I am inspired by a strong future, but I am alarmed by the cold hand of
technology that threatens to diminish the need for human contact and feelings.
My goal is to express the intensity of emotion as I capture the human image with
all of its frailty and core beauty. I want my pictures to encourage growth and
understanding of the biological condition in order to create a world that offers
a better place to live...."
Calderon sites Frank Frazzeta, Simon Bisley, Salvador Dali and H.R. Giger as
artistic inspirations as he developed his painting skills over the past 6 years.
Calderon is a native of Caracas, Venezuela who moved to Miami 3 years ago. In
1997, he displayed his artwork for the League Against Cancer exhibition. In
1998, Calderon sent his artwork to Frankfurt and Barcelona for an event called
"La Feria del Papel". Emerson has also displayed his work locally at
the Art Miami, Pinecrest Art Festival, Espanola Way Art Festival, Nabuc Gallery
and Funktional Funk.
