Darwin Leon
Sarcastic Satire
Oil on Canvas
Scenic images portray the nature of expressive design through the movement of
action and textured aspects. With a sharp sense of humor and figurative
imagination, Darwin Leon details the social context of pseudo-political, human
involvement with a flair for enhanced form and characterization. Displaying the
imbalances of society with a sarcastic perspective, Leon’s artistic creations
animate the discontinuities of the industrial order. Leon's paintings play on
the interpersonal deceptions that move culture.
"Utilizing the sarcastic theory that everyone cannot be completely open and
honest about everything, makes me aware of the hidden agendas and double-plays
occurring in our world. My artwork portrays the hierarchy of dominance over
others as the characters display their motives. At the same time, I work to
include humor as a foundation for serious commentary, so people can grasp the
meaning without feeling too offended by the message."
Leon is a Cuban native who learned to explore his artistic style while studying
at San Alejandro Art School, Casa De La Cultura and Miami-Dade Community
College. After 20 years of drawing and painting, Leon’s influences include a
variety of cultural references and techniques utilized by Cuban, American,
African and Russian artists. Darwin has also displayed his work locally at
Southwest Miami High School’s Student Art Show for three consecutive years.
