The Things We Talked About
An Acrylic and Mixed Media Exhibition
By
Cristina Lasaga
Striping away pretense allows the subject to reveal a raw view of the character. Expressing phases of self awareness through mixed media portraits, Cristina Lasaga utilizes scrap materials, abstract textures and bold colors as the foundation for her current series. Utilizing herself as the basis for her varied characters, Lasaga’s artistic forms project personal contours that reflect a desire to be seen as a person standing strong. Sharing an intimacy through color and lines, Lasaga's paintings lifts the naked form with an irreverence for modesty that extends the design into a position of power.
"My artwork reflects a struggle for acceptance that stabilizes the internal balance between alienation, openness and yearning for approval. By expressing emotion with an edgy vulnerability, I push the potency of power."
Lasaga, a Miami native, continues to refine her creative style with the foundation developed from Miami-Dade College North Campus’ Fine Arts Program, where she is finishing up her final requirements to earn her A.A. After 8 years of painting, Lasaga cites the works of Gustav Klimt, Yoshitomo Nara, Pizzicato Five, Junior Senior, U2 and Elvis Costello as cultural influences and creative motivators for her own pieces. In addition to her fine art pieces, Lasaga is currently developing a line of hand-painted designer clothing that she is in process of marketing. Cristina has also displayed her work locally at a selection of student exhibitions, including the 2003 & 2004 Miami-Dade College North Camps Student Showcases. The Wallflower Gallery is proud to present Cristina Lasaga as a featured artist for this 2004 Fine Art Exhibition.
