Tree Top Windows For The Soul
A Black and White Photographic Exhibition

Unique snapshots merge the various aspects of a scene to complement the balance and create the fullness of the picture. With an ever-ready lens and a sharp eye, Bill McDaniel combines subtle elements on film to invoke the sensations of the moment. Utilizing a classic approach of form and perspective with the backdrop of modern industrial society, McDaniel's photographs focus on the hidden emotion embedded in the tangible structure of people, places and things.

"I am inspired by life and all of the beauty it holds. My goal is to capture the intensity of a situation, providing an outlet for others to examine. I want people get into my pictures and take a mini-vacation that encourages growth and understanding of the world around them."

McDaniel sites Margaret Bourke White, Life Magazine's renowned photographer from the 30's & 40's, as a motivator for exploring the depth of a location through angle and lighting. McDaniel is a Miami native who has journeyed through Berlin, Paris, Caracas and Los Angeles, documenting his gritty, yet down-to-earth life with pictures. For the past 12 years, McDaniel's photography has been his inspirational testament of survival, after he was diagnosed with the HIV virus. While in Berlin in 1993, he contributed some photographs for the German A.I.D.S. Foundation Festival Book in coordination with the World A.I.D.S. Conference. Bill has also displayed his work locally at the Torpedo nightclub, Joffrey's Coffee House and Funktional Funk.
